How is business value calculated?

The calculator multiplies your annual owner earnings by the low and high multiples from BizBuySell's tables of sold US small businesses in your industry, then shows a revenue cross-check. For service businesses those multiples run from 1.75 to 3.13 times annual owner earnings, so $200,000 of owner earnings gives $350,000 to $626,000.

What does the range mean?

It uses the middle half of multiples for US small-business sales reported between 2021 and 2025.

Is a business worth 3 times profit?

Multiples apply to owner earnings, which add the owner's pay and one-off costs back to profit, not to net profit. Service businesses run from 1.75 to 3.13 times annual owner earnings, IT and software services from 2.20 to 3.87 times and trucking companies from 2.29 to 3.56 times, so 3 times is near the top of the service range.

How much is a business with two million dollars in sales worth?

Sales alone give a rough view. Service businesses run from 0.48 to 1.04 times annual revenue, which puts $2,000,000 in sales at about $960,000 to $2,080,000. Enter your owner earnings as well to see the earnings-based range.

Can I ask about my records without selling my company?

Yes. The records estimate looks at your records on their own and recommends a next step. It does not value or sell your company.
